While in law school he served as a Marshall-Brennan fellow and taught constitutional law to middle school students from low-income backgrounds. He later accepted a position to work for Senator Barack Obama on Capitol Hill in 2006 and subsequently served as the national deputy director of religious affairs on the Obama for America campaign.
