Take a Ph.D. to Work

Are you a Ph.D. student considering multiple career paths? Would you like to explore careers options in industry while keeping focused on your research and writing? The Take a Ph.D. to Work program provides Princeton Ph.D. candidates an opportunity to experience a prospective career field first-hand without the commitment of a job or internship.

What it is.

You will shadow an employee for a day at an organization that interests you to get a feel for a specific job/career field, as well as build connections that can be helpful for you in the future. Graduate students of all years and disciplines are welcome to apply. Students will be able to shadow up to three different industries throughout the month and this flexible program allows the student to select dates that work best for them and their host.

Why you should participate.

You may not realize it, but your studies here at Princeton prepare you for jobs both inside and outside of academy. A Ph.D. program is a job itself, and candidates and recent graduates essentially have more than four years of experience with transferable skills. This program will help you discover additional post-graduation opportunities and insight into potential career paths while creating relationships with Ph.D.s who have successfully navigated their way to a satisfying career.
